we booked out the camera for a weekend on the 11th of december and we did most of our filming then. we then booked it out again on the folling monday so we could add the finishing touches. i don't think we will need to book the camera out again because we have finished filming.

filming

we booked the camera out for a weekend so we started filming on Friday 11 December, we commenced filming straight away. we started filming after collage on friday we had sorted out a room to film in. we used a couple of extra little touches to make the room look like a prison, we used a couple of pictures of freinds and family of the criminal and also we had prepared a letter for the criminal to read. we had little resources to make the scene look authentic so we use some effects to make it look like the criminal was crying.

then the next day we met up at our location outside around the back of collage and filmed the rest of the crime drama. except for the cashpoint scene which was done by shaheema. we filmed the scene where the victim is shot and the criminal running away. we thought that we needed some extra footage so we filmed agian on the follwing monday. on monday we filmed criminal running to his gang and him being caught.

we are short of a fourth member so we are all going to do the editing together. me and shahima are going to be in the crime drama and we are going to get some other people to be in it as well.

props

in terms of props we are going to keep it basic, we are only going to use:

• hooded clothing



• police badges

we were going to use a fake gun to show the criminal shooting the victim but we thought that would make the crime drama look cheap and unproffessional. instaed of actually showing the victim being shot we are going to use sound effects to suggest a gun to the audience. i think this will be a lot more effective than showing a gun.

final step outline

this is the new step outline. ther have been some changes made and the storyline has been extended so that it is more interesting. our first storline ended when the victim was robbed and shot but we thought that we needed to add another significant event into the opening sequence. this is the scene which shows how the criminal is captured.

Initial step outline:

The initial step outline for our group opening sequence of the crime drama, was created on 20-11-09. This was to create a set idea of the sequence of our crime drama. However, some changes may have to made as we are constantly analysing the ideas in order to make it practical to perform. This is the rough version of the step outline.

The synopsis

The narrative

The whole opening sequence is a flashback showing how a criminal ends up in prison. The first shot is a close up of the criminals eyes filed with regret as he is sitting in a tiny prison cell. There is no dialogue in the opening sequence because the cameras we are using are not very good for recording sound, this is because we are going to be doing our filming on a busy road and the sound from the environment will block out the dialogue. I will not use any diagetic sound I will only use sound that I have put in myself which will be done when I am doing the editing. Then screen will then fade out to the cash point scene, this is the flashback and to show that it is a flashback the screen colour will change to a light yellowish colour to make it look old we have acquired this technique from life on mars.. The scene is set at a cash point and the main character who is the criminal is trying to withdraw some money from his account only to find that he has nothing in there. The frustrated criminal walks off, and then he spots a girl who has just took out some money from the cash point. The criminal thinks to himself ‘this is not the right thing to do’, the criminal cannot help himself as he is desperate to buy some drugs. The criminal approaches victim and he tries to snatch her handbag which contains the money she pulls the bag away and slaps him. The aggravated criminal pulls out a gun and shoots her. Then the screen fades out and finishes. There will be a voice over throughout the sequence but no dialogue.
The above synopsis was our original narrative but due to feed back from the teacher we have extended our sequence because we thought it would be too short so we have added an extra piece of narrative to it. The next scene is set in an alleyway, the criminal runs towards the gang to show them that he has done his first robbery. Then the camera switches to point of view to show the eyes of a police officer, the officer approaches gang. As the officer gets closer the gang spread out and run away, as they run they leave the bag in the criminal’s hands. The officer catches the criminal.

Mise en scene

When the criminal is in the cell the lighting is going to be dark and there is going to be only one source of light coming from a small window to connote that the room is blocked off from the rest of the world and the only contact to the outside world is that source of light. The will represent depression and it will show the criminals emotions.






Props

We are not going to use many props, the only props we are going to use are

· A handbag
· Credit card

Costumes
The costumes we are going to use are street clothes such as baggy jeans, hoodie and a bandanna to represent the criminals. To represent a police inspector we are going to use a long black coat and a hat. I have got the ideas for costumes from the wire and prime suspect.

Locations

We have a couple of locations for our opening sequence the first one a building site where the old Joseph chamberlain collage was, by using this location we are trying to represent a run down area which is under development. The other location we have is an alleyway which is a conventional place for a crime drama to be set.

The pitch

We have come up with 2 potential names for our crime drama; the first name that we have come up with is fade out. The reason why we have come up with this name is because the narrative is about an average boy who joins a gang and then he ends up in prison for murdering someone. The main character the criminal thinks the idea of joining the gang is not a good idea but his thoughts are faded out.
The second potential name we have come up with is fracture, we came up with this name because it sounds catchy and it is simple but effective in getting the viewers attention. There is also a deeper meaning to the name fracture; it represents how a fragile young mind is fractured and how someone’s life is changed so dramatically by one stupid mistake.
To pick a name we are going to set up a poll on our blogs and the one with the most votes will be chosen. We are also going to create a questionnaire which we are going to hand out to people. We will do a questionnaire as well as the poll because we can get a wider variety of audience to fill in the questionnaire therefore making our results more reliable.

potential names for the crime drama

we have come up with 2 potential names for our crime drama, the first one is fade out. we thought of this name because we were trying to represent how the main character who is the criminal thinks about committing crimes. he knows it is not the right thing to but his concsience is faded out into the background. the other name that we thought of was fracture.
